Indie Academy

Indie Academy is for 19-25 year olds who want to complete their senior schooling education, available in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

About Indie Academy

The Indie Academy aims to re-engage young adults with education, opening up pathways to further training or employment. Work commitments and life can get in the way of taking that next step in education. Our flexible learning program is designed to support young people to grow their skills and reach their learning goals.

Learning

The Indie Academy aims to re-engage each person by ensuring that each learner’s strengths are identified, and that individual knowledge, skills, and attitudes form the basis of their growth as learners.

There is a strong focus on independent learning, literacy, and numeracy, as well as the development of more sophisticated thinking in areas of critical analysis, creative thinking, and problem-solving. Learners are encouraged to build an appreciation for lifelong learning, and work towards their future goals.

Learners are provided with opportunities to undertake their studies via a flexible timetable. This includes 2 face to face sessions a week, booked with the teacher (face to face, 1 on 1, and in small groups) and via online learning at least twice a week. Our online learning management system “CANVAS” contains all content, examples and assessments learners will need to work from home.

The Academy focuses on developing a learner’s capacity that will enable them to improve and gain success in their studies and future pathway.

Curriculum

In 2025, the Indie Academy will deliver curriculum to adult learners aged 19 – 25 years old in 3 states. The Academy complies with the assessment and reporting requirements of the relevant state governments. These programs are:

The VCE Vocational Major (VM) is a vocational and applied learning program within the VCE designed to be completed over a minimum of two years. The VCE VM will give students greater choice and flexibility to pursue their strengths and interests and develop the skills and capabilities needed to succeed in further education, work and life.

The SACE is flexible and students’ schedules may differ depending on their school. To complete the qualification, you will need to attain 200 credits from a selection of Stage 1 and Stage 2 subjects (or VET). A 10- credit subject is usually one semester of study, and a 20-credit subject is usually over two semesters.

The Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) is awarded to senior secondary school students who satisfy its requirements. It is a senior secondary certificate recognised nationally

in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Generally, students will complete two years of senior secondary study to achieve the WACE, although the School Curriculum and Standards Authority allows students to meet the WACE requirements over a lifetime.

Pathways

Indie Academy leaners will be able to engage in VET certificates and programs in consultation with their state certificates via Indie College or other registered training organisations. Indie Academy is supportive of their learners seeking Traineeships, Apprenticeships or work opportunities. Study and timetables can be structured around these impacts.
